Terms of Service

These terms cover the Smart Layouts trial, the license you buy, refunds, and what you can expect from the app.

Last updated: 20 September 2026

1. Who these terms are with

Smart Layouts is developed and operated by an independent individual developer (“we”, “us”). These terms form the agreement between you and the developer when you download, install, try or buy Smart Layouts. By using the app or this website you accept them. If you do not accept them, do not install or use the app.

2. The software

Smart Layouts is a native macOS application for zone-based window management. It requires macOS 13.0 (Ventura) or later and the macOS Accessibility permission, which you grant in System Settings so the app can move and resize windows.

Current releases are signed with a free developer certificate rather than a paid Apple Developer ID. macOS therefore shows a Gatekeeper warning on first launch, and you have to allow the app manually. We state this openly before purchase; it is a property of the product, not a defect.

3. Free trial

Smart Layouts can be used free of charge and with full functionality for 14 days. No payment details are required to start the trial. When the trial ends you need a license to keep using the app. The trial is provided as is, without any warranty.

4. License

A purchase gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, perpetual license to use Smart Layouts on up to 2 Macs that you personally own or control, including all future updates of the app at no extra cost.

You may not:

  • share, resell, rent, sublicense or publish your license key;
  • redistribute the app or any modified version of it;
  • circumvent the trial period, the license check or the device limit;
  • reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except to the extent that Czech or EU law expressly allows it despite this restriction.

We remain the owner of all intellectual property rights in Smart Layouts. You buy a license to use the software, not the software itself.

5. Price and payment

A Smart Layouts license costs $10 as a one-time payment. Checkout is handled by Lemon Squeezy, which is the merchant of record for the sale: it takes the payment, applies any VAT or sales tax that is due in your country, issues the receipt and emails your license key. The Lemon Squeezy terms apply to the payment itself.

Prices may change for future purchases. A price change never affects a license you have already bought.

6. Refunds and right of withdrawal

We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee: write to [email protected] within 30 days of your purchase and we will refund it, no reason required. Your license key is deactivated once the refund is issued.

If you are a consumer in the EU, you also have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for distance purchases. Because Smart Layouts is digital content delivered immediately, you are asked at checkout to consent to immediate delivery and to acknowledge that this ends the statutory withdrawal right. Our 30-day guarantee is offered voluntarily in addition to, and is more generous than, the statutory right.

7. Updates and support

Updates are included with your license and delivered through the app’s update check or from this website. We may change, discontinue or replace features between versions. Support is provided by email at [email protected] on a best-effort basis; no specific response time is guaranteed.

8. Trademarks

Mac and macOS are trademarks of Apple Inc. Smart Layouts is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Apple Inc. PowerToys FancyZones and Windows are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation. Smart Layouts is not affiliated with Microsoft Corporation. All other trademarks belong to their respective owners.

9. Warranty disclaimer

Smart Layouts is provided “as is”. To the extent permitted by law, we make no warranty that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every Mac, macOS version or third-party window manager. Statutory warranty rights that consumers have under Czech and EU law are not affected by this clause.

10. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or in connection with Smart Layouts is limited to the amount you actually paid for your license, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damage such as lost profits, lost work or lost data.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for damage caused intentionally or by gross negligence, for harm to life, body or health, or for anything else that cannot be limited under applicable law.

11. Termination

You may stop using Smart Layouts at any time by uninstalling it. We may deactivate a license if it was obtained fraudulently, if a chargeback is filed against the purchase, or if these terms are breached in a material way — in particular by sharing or reselling a license key. Sections 4, 8, 9, 10 and 13 survive termination.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the product changes. The date at the top of this page shows the current version. Changes apply to purchases and use after they are published; they never retroactively remove rights attached to a license you already own.

13. Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the law of the Czech Republic, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. If you are a consumer, you also keep the protection of the mandatory rules of the country where you live, and disputes may be brought before the courts of that country.

Consumers in the EU may also use the European Commission’s online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr. We prefer to settle any problem directly — email [email protected] first.

14. Privacy

How we handle personal data is described in our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these terms.
